SWEB Development Congratulates Glooscap Energy on National Indigenous Clean Energy Award
10/2025 - Back to overview
SWEB Development extends its sincere congratulations to Glooscap Energy, which has been named Indigenous Clean Energy Company of the Year by the Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA). The national award was presented on October 6 at Electricity Transformation Canada in Toronto.
Glooscap Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Glooscap Ventures—the investment arm of Glooscap First Nation—has become a leader in Indigenous-led renewable energy development in Nova Scotia. SWEB Development was proud to nominate Glooscap Energy for this recognition, which honours organizations driving Canada’s clean energy transition.
SWEB and Glooscap have built a strong partnership rooted in shared values and a long-term vision for clean energy. Glooscap is the majority owner of the Weavers Mountain and Sugar Maple Wind Projects, developed in collaboration with SWEB Development in Nova Scotia. Together, these projects will produce more than 200 megawatts of clean power, contributing significantly to the province’s renewable energy goals while creating meaningful economic and social benefits for surrounding communities.
“Glooscap’s vision and leadership are helping to set a new standard for Indigenous-led clean energy in Nova Scotia,” said Rory Cantwell, CEO at SWEB Development. “We’re proud to work alongside them on projects that deliver long-term value to communities and demonstrate the power of partnership.”
Glooscap’s clean energy initiatives also extend beyond these projects, with solar developments and collaborative work through the Wskijinu’k Mtmo’taqnuow Agency, supporting other Mi’kmaq Nations in advancing renewable energy projects and sharing knowledge across communities.
SWEB Development congratulates Glooscap Energy, Glooscap First Nation, and all of this year’s CanREA award recipients on this well-deserved recognition.
