Interim Report on the First Quarter of 2026

2026 Starts with Positive Momentum

05/2026 - Back to overview

The W.E.B Group made a successful start to fiscal year 2026: Electricity generation in the first quarter of 2026 was around 15% higher than in the same period last year. As a result, revenues increased from EUR 46.7 million to EUR 54.4 million. Despite higher expenses, earnings before taxes also improved significantly, reaching EUR 14.8 million — an increase of approximately 72% compared to the previous year (EUR 8.6 million).

This development was primarily driven by more favorable wind conditions and the expansion of the power plant portfolio in previous periods. Although conditions remained below long-term average levels, electricity generation in Germany and France increased by more than one-third. In Germany, newly commissioned power plants also contributed to this growth. In the core market of Austria, production increased by 16%, supported by the commissioning of Spannberg IV in June 2025. Overall, the W.E.B Group generated 487.2 GWh of electricity in the first quarter, equivalent to the average annual electricity consumption of around 140,000 Austrian households.

Profit increased significantly

The higher electricity generation was reflected accordingly in revenues, which reached EUR 54.4 million during the reporting period (Q1/2025: EUR 46.7 million). At the same time, expenses increased, particularly due to the operation of additional power plants and electricity purchases. Nevertheless, operating profit of EUR 20.5 million were significantly above the prior-year figure of EUR 13.7 million. Due to ongoing investments in new projects, interest expenses also increased moderately. Overall, profit before taxes rose by 72% to EUR 14.8 million (Q1/2025: EUR 8.6 million).

“The first quarter of 2026 confirms the course we have set. Improved wind conditions and the targeted expansion of our power plant portfolio are having a positive impact on W.E.B’s development. For us, the key priority is to realize projects with stable long-term earnings potential and to consistently strengthen our position across W.E.B’s markets,” explains Michael Trcka, Board Member Finance.

Focus on Core Business

During the reporting quarter, W.E.B sold its e-mobility subsidiary ella to Wien Energie. With this step, the company is further sharpening its strategic focus on the development and operation of renewable power plants. Founded in 2014, ella was among the pioneers of electric mobility in Austria and played a key role in expanding the country’s charging infrastructure. As part of the transaction, both the entire team and the existing charging infrastructure were taken over.

Approximately 145 MW under Construction

At the same time, W.E.B continues to pursue its international growth strategy. Currently, three wind farms and one photovoltaic project are under construction. In Canada, the company is developing Weavers Mountain, the largest project in the company’s history to date, with a capacity of 94.4 MW. In France, construction is underway on Poilly (25.2 MW), W.E.B’s seventh wind farm in the country. Expansion is also progressing in Germany, where Wörbzig II, a 14 MW wind farm, is being built. In Austria, W.E.B is developing Rohr II in Styria, its largest photovoltaic plant to date, with a capacity of 11.5 MWp.

“Demand for renewable energy continues to grow, while market conditions are constantly evolving. We therefore remain firmly focused on profitability and long-term perspectives in the expansion of our portfolio. Through active portfolio management and our well-filled project pipeline, we are able to seize opportunities in a targeted manner and further develop our power plant portfolio sustainably”, says Board Member Corporate Development.
