Interim Report on the First Quarter of 2025

05/2025 - Back to overview

Changing Wind Conditions Impact Revenue and Earnings

The W.E.B Group generated revenues of EUR 46.7 million in the first quarter of 2025, marking an 8% decline compared to the same period in the previous year. Earnings before taxes dropped to EUR 8.6 million. The primary drivers of this development were lower wind levels and declining electricity prices. A total of 423,603.5 MWh of climate-friendly, green electricity was produced during the reporting period.

The first three months of 2025 were marked by unusual wind and weather conditions. Much of Europe experienced lower-than-average wind activity, which had a broad impact across the wind energy sector. W.E.B’s electricity production between January and March 2025 fell below the long-term average. However, positive developments in Canada, the U.S., and Italy helped to partially offset this decline.

In Italy, electricity generation in the first quarter of 2025 was four times higher than in the same period of 2024, thanks to the full-year operation of the Ariano and Apricena wind farms, which were commissioned last year.  This clearly demonstrates how quickly new W.E.B facilities begin contributing to overall performance. In Austria and Germany, recently installed capacity also helped to mitigate the weather-related production decline.

“The first quarter of 2025 underscores how dynamic conditions in the wind energy sector can be. Wind and weather are inherently volatile and can lead to earnings fluctuations. This makes targeted investments and continued expansion of wind power even more essential. We’re pressing ahead with the expansion of our power plants because the transition to renewable energy is vital for both the economy and society. The energy transition remains a top priority for many people,” said W.E.B Executive Board members Stefanie Markut and Michael Trcka.

New Power Plants in Q1 2025
W.E.B’s power plant portfolio continues to grow at a rapid pace. In late February, two photovoltaic plants with a combined installed capacity of 656 kWp were commissioned in Groß-Siegharts and Götzles in the Waldviertel region of Austria. In March, equipment deliveries began for the Spannberg IV wind farm in Lower Austria, and construction is now underway.

In Germany, construction is progressing quickly at the Grube wind farm, in which W.E.B holds a 50% stake. Work at the Glaubitz RII wind farm, near the historic porcelain town of Meissen, is also proceeding on schedule. Altogether, these new projects will provide clean electricity for more than 32,000 households.
