W.E.B production results September 2019

10/2019 - Back to overview

Weak wind conditions and hurricane “Dorian”:
monthly results below target

The overall monthly production of 79,039 MWh remained below the defined target.

The month of September turned out rather average in terms of temperature, rainfall and sunshine in Central Europe. The wind conditions were the only exception – and remained considerably below the long-term average. In consequence, W.E.B’s production could not perform as expected in Austria. The same is true for Italy and the Czech Republic. In North America, a powerful hurricane travelled northwards along the eastern coast and hit Nova Scotia at full tilt. The power grid almost broke down and up to 80 percent of Nova Scotia had to ensure several days without electricity. Although the W.E.B plants survived the storm unscathed, the grid failures resulted in extended downtimes for the power plants and production results below target. This month’s top performers were Germany, France and the United States, all of which delivered positive results.

W.E.B’s photovoltaic regions were fortunate enough to get more hours of sunlight than the climatological average in September.

The photovoltaic power segment in Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic performed better than expected, while Italy concluded the month with slightly negative production results. The hydroelectric power segment remained above target in Austria and significantly below target in Germany due to the period of extreme drought.
