Three Wind Farms, Three Manufacturers, and Successful Financing

10/2026 - Back to overview

WEB Windenergie AG is starting construction on three major wind energy projects. In Auersthal and Maustrenk, existing wind turbines will be replaced with modern, higher-capacity units. In Spannberg, the existing wind farm will be expanded, while three existing turbines will also be dismantled. For the three projects, W.E.B is working with three experienced European manufacturers: Nordex, Vestas, and Enercon.

Repowering makes it possible to use proven wind energy sites more efficiently with modern technology. Older turbines are replaced with more powerful models, allowing suitable sites to generate more electricity. In many cases, this also reduces the total number of turbines required.

In Auersthal, the repowering project marks a special milestone: Nordex will supply and install eight N175/6.X turbines with a total capacity of 56 MW. For Nordex, this will be the first project in Austria using this turbine model and, at the same time, the company’s largest single project in the country to date. Commissioning is scheduled for the end of 2028.

“We are pleased not only to further strengthen our long-standing partnership with the municipality of Auersthal, but also to write a new chapter in W.E.B’s history together with Nordex. This is the first time we are building turbines of this size. Together with Nordex, we are demonstrating just how much energy can be harnessed from the wind,” says W.E.B Executive Board Member Stefanie Markut.

Repowering also represents an important step forward in Maustrenk. For the Maustrenk project and the Spannberg IV expansion, Vestas will supply and install a total of twelve V162 turbines with a combined capacity of 73 MW, together with 25-year service agreements. In Spannberg, three additional E175 turbines from Enercon will be installed.

The use of different turbine models demonstrates how W.E.B selects technology to match the specific conditions at each site, enabling wind farms to be planned efficiently and with long-term economic viability in mind.

The Spannberg IV expansion is now the fourth wind farm developed by W.E.B in the municipality. This long-standing cooperation reflects W.E.B’s approach of building on trust and strong partnerships. Over many years, this creates experience and a shared understanding of the region’s development.

“For us, municipalities are key partners. Good cooperation, mutual trust, and open dialogue provide the foundation for wind energy projects to receive broad support over many years,” Markut emphasizes.

W.E.B also has long-standing relationships with Nordex, Vestas, and Enercon. All three European manufacturers have decades of experience in the development and production of wind turbines.

“We ourselves bring more than 30 years of experience in wind energy. That is why it is important for us to work with partners who also stand for expertise, reliability, and long-term cooperation,” says Markut.

Another important milestone was reached in September with the successful completion of financing for the Auersthal Repowering and Maustrenk Repowering projects. The total financing volume for the two projects is approximately EUR 200 million. The financing was arranged together with Erste Bank, Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederösterreich-Wien, and UniCredit Bank Austria.

With the Auersthal Repowering, Maustrenk Repowering, and Spannberg IV expansion projects, W.E.B is continuing to advance its wind energy portfolio in Austria. The three projects combine modern turbine technology with extensive experience and long-term partnerships with municipalities and technology partners.
