Repowering Glaubitz in Operation

09/2025 - Back to overview

The Glaubitz wind farm is a project with a long history. Wind turbines have been turning here since 1999 to produce clean electricity. The original wind farm was taken over by W.E.B and partially repowered in 2015. Now the next phase has been completed: the repowering of the remaining old turbines.

The previous turbines of the type Vestas V52 were dismantled and sold to Scotland. There, they will be reassembled and continue operating, extending their lifecycle. Smaller wind turbines like the Vestas V52 are particularly in demand on the second-hand market, as they are ideal for sites with less space or weaker wind conditions.

As part of the repowering, partly funded by the 2024 bond, two new Vestas V126 wind turbines were installed. These powerful models have a total capacity of 7.2 MW. With a tower height of 166 meters, they are more than twice as tall as the old turbines. This height allows for more efficient “wind harvesting,” since wind is stronger and more consistent at higher altitudes. Specifically, W.E.B expects an annual production of over 16,000 MWh of clean electricity.

Glaubitz is a good example of the long-term, cooperative partnership that W.E.B seeks with municipalities and citizens. One thing is clear: the energy transition can only succeed together.
