Interim report on the first quarter 2018

05/2018 - Back to overview

Weaker wind conditions | Sales revenue slightly below previous year’s level

The end of the previous year was just as brilliant as the beginning of the new year 2018 was hesitant. While the winds abated noticeably, both the photovoltaic and hydroelectric segments experienced a constant up and down. The resulting overall production results remained below target. Moreover, the subsidized tariffs of several wind farms expired, leading to a slight decline in revenue in the first quarter of 2018.

The generated sales revenue of MEUR 23.5 missed the levels of previous year’s corresponding period by just a slim margin (-3 percent).

The beginning of 2018 was marked by the completion of photovoltaic projects. In February W.E.B acquired the Conza photovoltaic park in Italy with an installed capacity of 3.35 MWp. One month later, the company expanded its domestic portfolio of photovoltaic projects: within the scope of the SME Energy Transition Partnership, W.E.B commissioned a photovoltaic system with an installed capacity of 77.28 kWp in Poettsching, Burgenland; the project was concluded with an additional 119.84 kWp installed in May 2018.

Several wind energy projects are currently in the construction phase, two of which will start operations in 2018. In late February, W.E.B celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony at the Dürnkrut wind farm, in which the company will operate four plants with a total capacity of 13.8 MW; the new turbines are scheduled to be connected to the grid in late 2018. Much earlier, in June 2018, the 21.6 MW wind farm Flesquières in northern France will be put into operation.
