Construction Begins on WEB Windenergie AG’s Styrian Project

Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Rohr II PV Plant

05/2026 - Back to overview

Under bright sunshine, the official construction start of the “Rohr II” photovoltaic plant took place in Rohr near Hartberg. With an investment volume of around EUR 7 million and a capacity of 11.5 MWp, the project combines economic strength with sustainability.

The Rohr II PV plant is the second ground-mounted solar park W.E.B is developing in Styria. The facility will have an impressive capacity of 11.5 MWp and is expected to generate approximately 13,500 MWh of electricity annually. Around 16,000 solar modules will be installed. Both the modules and all related works will be supplied and carried out by Austrian companies.

Ecological measures are also an integral part of the project: sheeps will act as natural lawn mowers beneath the panels, maintaining the grassland in an environmentally friendly way. In addition, nesting boxes will be installed and habitats for reptiles created. While these measures may appear modest at first glance, they make an important contribution to local biodiversity.

Florian Müller, Member of the Executive Board of W.E.B, commented on the project:
“Styria is not only green, but also sunny. I am delighted that we are making use of this potential. Establishing another W.E.B location in southern Austria was a strategic decision. The commitment of the regional government to implementing renewable energy projects is clearly visible, as demonstrated by the recently published SAPRO zoning plan. We are pleased to be part of this development and to strengthen not only W.E.B, but also Styria as an energy and industrial hub.”

Mayor Wolfgang Breitenbrunner added: “The PV project was initiated under my predecessors. I can only speak about the present, and I would like to say that the cooperation with W.E.B has been truly positive.”

The plant is scheduled to go into operation by the end of the year. As Styria’s economy continues to grow, so does its demand for energy. Households as well as industry will benefit from the clean electricity that the Rohr II PV plant will soon provide.
