It is done! The delegates to the United Nations Climate Change Conference unanimously adopted the 30-page Paris Agreement.
It took 23 years for all member states to reach a consensus on taking adequate measures to limit global warming to between 1.5 and 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, thus staving off climate change. The unanimous decision is an extremely positive aspect, indicating that some countries like Saudi Arabia, China or Venezuela changed their mind for the benefit of all.
Although it could be criticized that the accord does not define any punitive sanctions, developed countries are nonetheless committed – in addition to technical support – to jointly provide a floor of USD 100 billion a year by 2020 to help developing countries deal with the consequences of climate change. Moreover, the Paris Agreement sets a shift away from using fossil fuels. Now we can get back to work and W.E.B will do everything in its power to support the Paris accord.
